[fusion_text]Who has never had a dental emergency at the most inconvenient time? I think we all have at one time or another.

At WestClair Dental we offer same day emergency appointments. The first thing you would do in a dental emergency is CONTACT YOUR DENTIST. Explain the situation and the symptoms and get in to see them as soon as possible. Here are a few tips to deal with some common dental emergencies till you can get in to see your dentist. These tips are courtesy of the Canadian Dental Association and are not a fix.

To ease the pain of a toothache you may take an over the counter pain medication. Avoid putting the medication on your sore tooth. Place an icepack against your face at the area of the sore tooth. Do not put heat on the jaw it will only make things worse.

If you have lost a filling put a piece of softened sugarless gum in the spot where the filling has fallen out. This will protect the area for a short time but you must get in to see your dentist as soon as possible.

If you have knocked a tooth out your dentist may be able to put it back. Place the tooth in a container of milk and get to your dentist or the closest dentist immediately. If the tooth is replaced within the first hour or two there is a good chance of it taking root again. After that the chances are not good.

If you have something stuck between your teeth try using dental floss to remove it, but be very gentle. If this does not work please see your dentist as soon as possible to remove the object. Never use a pin or sharp object to dig around your teeth it will only cut you.

But the bottom line is you must get into the dental office as soon as possible to take care of the situation.[/fusion_text]
